Discussing the ways churches can repurpose their facilities into multi-use developments that extend the peace of God to their neighborhoods Registration for this event has closed.
About this eventOver the last decade, more than 4,000 houses of worship in the United States have been closing every year; still more find themselves with shrinking congregations and more property than they need. The COVID pandemic only promises to accelerate that trend. But the challenge lying before many congregations at this time can also be an opportunity, in the words of Richard Reinhard, “to facilitate the rebirth of single-use churches into mixed- and multiple-use developments,” and thus to find new ways to serve their neighborhoods as civic anchors. LYN:4 presents three speakers actively engaged in the creative re-development of church properties on both a national and local level: Dr. Patrick Duggan, Executive Director, UCC Building and Loan Fund; Dr. Jill Shook, Executive Director of Making Housing and Community Happen; and Ryan VerWys, CEO of Inner City Christian Federation.
